CYANOTYPES
Peter's Cyanotype printing celebrates two important people in the history of photography: Sir John Herschel, a multi-talented scientist who invented the process in the 1840's, and Anna Atkins, who from 1843 to the early 1850's produced the first ever photographically illustrated book, all Cyanotypes and called Photographs of British Algae: Cyanotype Impressions. It is a wonder that Cyanotypes are so old.
The process uses a mix of two iron compounds to make a light sensitive solution, which is then exposed to Ultra-Violet light using negatives or via contact printing. When washed in water the wonderful Prussian Blue comes through. Peter is experimenting with different colour papers and ink underwashes to enhance the Cyanotype blueprint effect.
